Tambaqui Assado com Banana Frita (Roasted Tambaqui with Fried Banana)

Introduction:

Because of the proximity of the Amazon River, fish is a main part of many traditionial Amazonian dishes. Often, it is paired with farofa, a hard grain that gives a lot of dishes, including soups, an almost sandy texture. It takes a bit to get used to, but it is very good!  It's also served with fried bananas, sweetening the dish. The same elements are often included in most dishes. Fish, shrimp, beans and rice are often main components of Amazonian dishes. Another common dish a traditional soup with shrimp. I have no idea how a super hot soup became a tradition in a location that is so hot all the time, because everytime I have a soup here, it is a semi-insufferable yet delicious experience.

What food did I try?:

I tried tambaqui assado com Banana frita (roasted tambaqui with fried banana). This dish is meant to be shared among a group of three or four, sometimes more depending on the size of the fish. The fish can grow up to 3.6 feet!  That is a long fish! The entire fish, head and all, can be served in a variety of ways.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

To be clear, I was very hungry when I first had this dish, but I felt euphoric when I tried tambaqui assado. Did I come close to tears? Most definitely.
