The enormous Amazon rainforest covers the eastern half of Peru. It is home not only to many unique species of plants, animals and fungi, but also to communities of people who find a way to make a living there far away from Peru's bigger cities.
This environment is special because of its unique wildlife and plant life. The Amazon rainforest has extremely high biodiversity, meaning it is home to lots of different species––in fact, more than 10% of all the species in the world live here! The people who live here, many of whom belong to native tribes, have learned to live with all of these different species of organisms and use some of them to survive.
