Life in Sydney

Introduction:

Today, I interviewed my Australian friend, Jem. She is a student at that University of Sydney who I met in film class. In this field note, she shares what her life looks like as a local to Sydney.

What is your full name?:

Hi everyone, my name is Jem Keyes. I am twenty-one years old and a third-year student at the University of Sydney.

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

I live in Parramatta, one of the close-by suburbs to Sydney. In Parramatta, I live really close to multiple shops, cafes and train stations to get into the city. I live in a comfortable single-story family home in a quiet residential area.

What is your family like?:

My family is very close-knit and we enjoy spending time with each other as a family. My dad is an IT support technician, which is super helpful when my laptop or phone isn’t working. My mom works as the reception and admin manager for a dental office. I have a younger sister who is studying at the University of Technology - Sydney.

How do you get around?:

Usually, I take the trains and buses to the University of Sydney from Parramatta because the trains and buses run fairly often. Taking the train into the city from where I live takes about 30 to 40 minutes depending on where I am going.
