In the parades and plaza events, you’ll see traditional dances from different pueblos and hear traditional music.
While Carnaval is celebrated in many places throughout the world, each place has their own traditions. In Ecuador, the connection with Paucar Huatay and Indigenous traditions makes it stand out from other country’s celebrations. Different cities in Ecuador also have their own unique Carnaval celebrations that reflect their city’s unique history and culture. In Ambato, for example, Carnaval is called “La Fiesta de las Flores y de las Frutas” or the Fruit and Flower Festival. The festival started to commemorate the abundance of fruit and flowers harvested in 1950, as well as to help the city recuperate from an earthquake the year prior. The area of Ambato is still known for their agriculture, and they have some beautiful markets. During Carnaval, they have parades with floats exclusively decorated with local flowers and fruit.
