What makes this environment special or different?:

The geology of the two neighboring regions—the Langhe and the Roero—could not be more different. The Roero has a dramatic landscape with steep cliffs and sandy soil, where many small medieval towns are perched on top of these cliffs! On the other hand, the Langhe has softer terrain, with rolling hills and more clay in the soil. This difference means that the same crops can taste completely different depending on where they are grown. It’s fun to compare grapes or pears grown in these two neighboring regions, and it’s all fueled by the friendly competition among farmers over whose products are the best!

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

This land is blessed with deep agricultural roots. While most people in the area have historically been quite poor, this hardship has fostered a strong bond between the community and the landscape.
