In Tha Sala, nearly everyone speaks Thai. Different areas in Thailand have some regional language differences, just like in the U.S. For example, when I lived in Nevada, people only used the word "grocery cart," but when I lived in Georgia, people would use both "grocery cart" and "buggy." Similarly, South Thailand has some language differences than central and north Thailand.
In all of Thailand they use the Thai baht. For conversion, 30 baht is the same as 1 U.S. dollar.
A bottle of water usually costs around 7 baht.
Seafood is very popular in Tha Sala! Yesterday I had seafood fried rice with cucumber and tomato. They served it with a spicy chili sauce. For dessert, we had coconut ice cream with jellies and chocolate sauce.
This week, I went to a street market where students were playing traditional Thai instruments. One of the instruments looks like a U-shaped xylophone. Another was similar to a violin, but it was played upright like a cello. Someone was also playing a drum that looked like a barrel!
