After arriving in Thailand at the airport, the first mode of transportation I saw was a songthaew. A songthaew works similarly to a taxi, but looks very different. Songthaews are trucks that have two rows of seats in the bed of the truck. The songthaew/truck also has sides and a roof. Songthaew drivers go around the city picking and dropping people off places by request. The name songthaew directly translates to "two-benches" because of the benches in the back of the truck. A songthaew was one of the first "new things" I ever saw when I arrived in Thailand! At that moment, I knew my time abroad was going to be quite an adventure!
There are many ways that people get around. Just like people in the U.S.A., people in Thailand also need to get to school or work, to the stores or to visit friends and family. Therefore, Thai people use cars, buses, bikes, and their own two feet to get to places all the time. But, I'm going to focus on the modes of transportation that I hadn't seen in the U.S., before. There are three main modes: motorbikes, songthaews, and tuk-tuks!
1) Motorbikes. Many people ride motorbikes in Thailand. These are like motorcycles but smaller.
