I didn’t think anything of it until a Turkish student told me the water was not only undrinkable but had chlorine in it (the same chemical in pools) to keep the water clean enough to shower in. I felt so silly but truly had no idea. Luckily, I did not get sick from this one-time mistake.
Fresh water makes up a mere 3% of the world’s water. As the global population continues to rise, and the demand for water, meat, and dairy products grows, and more areas of the world experience droughts, I often find myself wondering about the politics of fresh water. How is it distributed equally? How do we decide who gets to use it? Is it just by luck of location? Should we be sharing it? Preserving it? What do you guys think?
