Callao is 6.7 miles from where I am currently staying in Lima. It took 30 minutes to get to Callao by car, and was roughly one hour's journey back by bus.
So far, I have traveled over 3000 miles from my home in Houston, Texas to be here in Lima, Peru! I also traveled 12 miles round trip from Callao to Lima.
There are various ways to get from one place to another in Lima. The most common way is by bus or car. The bus that I take everywhere is nicknamed the "Big Purple T." It takes you from Historic Downtown Lima all the way to Miraflores. To get to Callao, we had to take a smaller bus. There are people with skateboards, bicycles and scooters all over the city.
One of the most interesting places was the Real Felipe Fortress that is in Callao. I got to have my picture taken with a pirate and also got to see a dungeon! I also got to learn more about the generals who fought in the Peruvian Independence War with Spain and in the Pacific War with Chile. It was really cool because we climbed all the way to the top of the fortress and got to see Lima from a different viewpoint.
