Many of these buses are double-deckers, which means that there are two levels. If you want to get better views of the city, you can easily enjoy the sights from a seat in upper level.
Meanwhile, Edinburgh Trams is the major tramway in the city. A tram looks almost like a train with overhead cables, but a tram runs more slowly because it stops frequently to let people on and off at different locations. Edinburgh Trams runs all the way from the heart of Edinburgh to the airport and has 16 stops along the way.
Finally, taxis are the other main transportation in the city. Just like New York City is known for its yellow taxicabs, Edinburgh is known for its black taxis. It’s easy to hop in one that’s waiting around on the side of a busy street, and you can spot them from their sleek, old-fashioned look. Some people like the look of these taxis so much that they even rent them out in white for their wedding!
So far, I’ve really enjoyed walking around Edinburgh. Since Edinburgh is a relatively compact city, I love going from place to place so quickly, while also enjoying the beautiful architecture all around me. I often find myself walking into little shops or cafes on my way to and from classes, or even just exploring the city by foot on weekends.
Other than walking, I’ve only used other forms of transportation here twice (the bus from the airport and a tour bus to the Highlands). Since my flat is in such a central location, walking is simply the most convenient way for me to get around. Meanwhile, one of my friends uses the bus system on a regular basis.
