Halò! Hello! My name is Maria Harrast, and I’m 20 years old. I grew up in Oak Brook, IL, which is probably best known for being home to the old McDonald’s headquarters. Every 4th of July, the whole town would get free French fries at the fireworks show--yum! Now, I live in small-town Hanover, NH, where I go to school at Dartmouth College. I’m majoring in philosophy, which means I think a lot about big questions. Like, what’s the meaning of life? How do we know what’s real? Do we all see colors the same way? I also study French, and last spring, I lived in Paris for 10 weeks. By the end of the study abroad, I even started dreaming in French!
Right now, I’m in Edinburgh (EDdin-buh-ruh), Scotland, studying philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. One of the reasons I decided to study abroad again is because I always wanted the chance to learn at one of the best philosophy schools in the world. Plus, I love exploring and trying new things when I travel. While I’m here in Scotland, I can’t wait to search for the Loch Ness Monster and, if I’m feeling brave, maybe even try haggis. Haggis is a pudding mixed with sheep organs and spices. It might sound strange, but here in Scotland, it’s considered a delicacy!
Thank you for following me on my adventures in Edinburgh, and I can’t wait to explore and grow with you!
