Beyond Dakar

In more rural areas, like Kedougou, access to drinking water is very scarce; many people hike two miles to these waterfalls everyday to simply take a shower
The hike to the waterfall is about a mile and a half, which was a bit rough for me, but the beautiful greenery (and even the occasional baboon) along the way made it worth it
Because it was a rural region, access to water was scarce; my friends and I actually bathed in the waterfall, which was a beautiful experience
This is in Lac Rose, one of the most popular tourist destinations for visitors; an abundance of salt is what gives the lake its pink hue and locals in the area harvest and sell it
Up next is Saint Louis, a smaller, much calmer city about two hours north of Dakar; here's a beautiful sunset from the edge of the city
On a horse-drawn carriage tour of the city, we saw many children playing soccer to in the streets, a huge contrast to the bustling, traffic-filled streets of Dakar
There is huge bird sanctuary in Saint Louis, called Djoudj National Park with thousands of birds (and even a few alligators!) at the park
Here is a monkey at the Bijilo Monkey Park in Gambia, which is technically a different country than Senegal, but is completed enveloped by it and shares many of the cultural norms (including the Wolof language)
