My time in Senegal was transformative--so much so that I became determined to live in Senegal long-term after my graduation from college in June of 2019. I knew deep in my heart that Senegal was where I wanted to be, but finding opportunities to live there long-term proved trickier than I imagined. I did some research and finally heard about the Fulbright program, an exchange program funded by the United States Department of State. They offer funding for year-long research, study, and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries. It was everything I was looking for.
Being accepted into the program was a dream come true! I am now living in Senegal conducting research on Goree Island, an internationally famous tourist site known for its role in the Translatlantic Slave Trade. I am so excited to share my adventures with all of you. Through them, maybe you'll fall in love with Senegal just like I have.
Ba beneen yoon! (Which means, "Until next time," in Wolof, one of the several ethnic languages in Senegal.)
