One of my favorities right now is Djadja by Aya Nakamura, a singer from Mali.
I spent the weekend on Goree, an island off the coast of the city. It was my friend birthday, so we spent a lot of time on the beach and ate some really yummy beignets.
I read some interesting articles for my research, but what you all might find cooler is an article I read about KFC (yes, the chicken restaurant). The first one in West Africa opened here in Dakar just a few weeks ago, by a Senegalese woman. She hired an all-women staff, and I just found her story to be really inpsiring!

I have not played any sports, but soccer is by far the most popular sport here. My apartment is just across the street from a soccer field and nearly the whole neighborhood comes out to watch the high school games on the weekend.
