Transportation in Ferrol and Spain

Introduction:

Transportation in Spain is both similar and different to transportation in the United States. In both countries, how how people get around varies depending on where they live. At the same time, in Spain public transportation (buses, trains and the metro) is much more frequently used than it is in America, even in smaller cities and towns. The Spanish infrastructure for public transportation is generally better than in the U.S.A., making it easier to use. You also aren't able to get your driver's license until you turn 18, here, which is an incentive to use public transportation!

How do people get around?:

Ferrol is a smaller city, so if you live in the city, it is very easy to walk wherever you need to go. For example, I generally walk to go shopping, to meet friends or to go out to eat. For activities that are a little further away, I generally take the bus like many other people who live in Ferrol. I have a bus card that I put money on at the ATM which makes it my bus travel cheaper overall. For instance, if you have a card, it is about 0.88 euros per trip, but if you pay in cash, it is about 1.20 euros.

Because Ferrol is a smaller city, there are a fair number of people who live outside of the city in small towns. These people generally own cars, which they use to go to work or school.
