Reducing Waste, One Boat at a Time

Although I never found out if those colorful waste bins were an intentional solution to the waste problem, I did learn that there are bins throughout the town specifically for recyclable materials. These bins aren’t as fun as the others, but they do have labels that tell people which type of trash belongs in each bin.

Something else I noticed in the town was how residents used scraps to make art. As I walked through town I saw lots of souvenir stands filled with trinkets made from recycled metals, plastics and shells. I even saw a man carving nut shells into animal shapes. It may not necessarily be directly related to the waste issue, but it is a unique way to incorporate recycling into everyday life.
