Traveler Bio

Hello! My name is Max. I am 23 years old and I am from Phoenix, Arizona. I have lived here in the desert my whole life and I just graduated from Arizona State University. I got a degree in geography. I also took Spanish and Portuguese language classes, and classes about urban planning and geographic information science. I currently work as a transportation planning intern at a local government agency. I hope to start graduate school in the near future!

Last year, I lived in Lisbon, Portugal from September to December. I received a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to study abroad and learn about Portuguese language, culture, and history. Portugal is a small country, almost the same size as the state of Maine! Its tiny size allowed me to visit many different parts. From Porto in the North, Lisbon in the middle, the Algarve in the south, and even the Azores Islands in the middle of the Atlantic, I'm excited to share with you all these different, unique regions. I can't wait to travel with you all!

Want to know more about how you can study or intern abroad when you are a college student? The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
