In the United States, you can usually find any vegetable or fruit at your local supermarket. If certain vegetables are not in season, many grocery stores are still able to sell them, having imported the produce that day. In Vietnam, however, your location often determines the type of fruits and veggies that you can buy. I remember when I first realized this. I found a ton of recipes online that used cauliflower. I went to my local supermarket with high hopes, as I saw cauliflower for sale just the other week. Unfortunately, I was too late, and I have not seen cauliflower for sale since, and it has been several months! Sometimes, markets are able to get some imported food. For example, I live near China, and some of the food I buy comes directly from China.
