This week I’ve gotten around using Straßenbahnen (trams), ICE-bahnen (high-speed, long-distance trains), and the S-Bahn (regional train). It is incredibly easy to travel across Europe using the public transportation system.
The most interesting place I visited this week was the East Side Gallery. The East Side Gallery is an open-air gallery, memorial, and the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall once divided East and West Berlin. Now this section of the wall holds murals by artists who call for peace, the end of walls that divide humanity, and hope for a brighter future.
The Deutsche Bahn or DB (German transportation authority) is putting the final touches on the new 49 Euro ticket. This ticket will allow people to travel around Germany on regional transportation for 49 Euros a month. This will make travel accessible for so many people. For example, my monthly ticket just to get around Dresden and to my school costs 78 Euros a month, and that’s the discounted price! I’m excited to see how this ticket opens up travel for people across Germany.
