After several weeks together, it's time to say goodbye. I hope you enjoyed reading the posts and learning a bit more about Indonesia! I think it's interesting to compare Indonesian and American cultures to notice both how different the cultures and languagesare but also how they're similar.
Yes, there are amazing animals here, like the mudskipper fish that lives in the mangroves and can breathe out of water during low tide. Yes, each culture here has its own cloth motif and language. Yes, kids here don't go to school by bus but rather by motorcycle or foot. Just like us, however, they love fried chicken and other fried foods. Like many American kids, Indonesian kids can spend lots of time watching television. What other similarities or differences have you noticed?
I will be in Southeast Sualwesi until next summer, collecting data on fishermens' catch and compiling a species distribution map for a bay and a sub-district here. I'll send Reach the World a link when the maps are online so you can take a look.
Thanks for the joy of writing for you. Sampai jumpa lagi (which means till we meet again, in Indonesian)!
