The Great Heron on the Waterfall

Introduction:

Florence has many green and natural spaces, including parks and a river, but it also has lots of buildings and tiny streets filled with people walking by. There are not many animals here. I usually see pigeons looking for crumbs and groups of birds flying around in the evening to catch bugs, but mostly I see a lot of dogs. One day, though, I saw a big, beautiful bird standing on top of a fountain that looked like a waterfall. It was really pretty, so I stayed for a while to watch it and took some pictures.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

This bird was a great heron, and it was pretty big. It is white and black and has long, skinny legs. Its beak is also very big because it likes to eat fish and needs a long beak to reach into the water to catch them.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I was so happy to see the bird. The heron stayed in the same spot for a long time, so I was able to take lots of pictures of it. I was really glad I got to see it. Sometimes I miss seeing animals. In Auburn, I always see squirrels. There are squirrels here too, but not in the city. I miss seeing animals, so it made me happy to see the heron.

Where does it live?:

Herons live in small nests near water. They can also be found in the Central Valley of California. They like shallow water with muddy bottoms.
