My Community in India

I have been to three countries in my life. The first is the United States, where I was born and have lived most of my life. The second is Canada, which I visited with my grandparents once during summer vacation when I was in high school. And the third?

Well, you all know by now that the answer is India!

I want you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine something. Imagine that you have just landed in a new country for the first time. You step off the plane by yourself and start to find your way out of the airport. As you are walking to the exit, you see people who do not look like you, and you hear them speaking in a language that you cannot understand. Everything is new and unfamiliar. You are on the other side of the world.

Just a few months ago, this was me!

Fortunately, there are many kind people here in India who have helped me to settle in and feel at home. The very first day, a friend of a friend greeted me at the airport. I was so glad that I had someone from the city to help show me around, because I was very tired from traveling. Your senses can get a little overwhelmed when you are in a new place for the first time – especially if that place is India!

Ever since my first day here, I have been fortunate to come across people who have welcomed me to their country. Everyone I have met in Bengaluru has been very friendly.
