Food All Day!

Introduction:

Many people have eaten takeout from their local Chinese restaurant.  Fried rice, eggrolls, crab rangoons...they're all a great treat!  But did you know that the food in China is often different?  That's because the type of food we're familiar with in the U.S. is actually made using recipes from Guangdong Province and other provinces in the South.  (A province is like a state.)  Different regions of China have different foods.  For example, some regions are known for their spicy cooking, while others are famous for their roasted meats.

No matter what city I was visiting, I was constantly told to eat more! I got to experience so many new foods, from donkey to duck, from frog to super-wide noodles.  I spent my entire trip with a very full stomach.  Now that I'm back in the U.S., I am always searching the menus at Chinese restaurants for the foods that I started to love during my time in China.

What food did I try?:

While staying with a local family, I tried a full, festive meal of dim sum (dumplings), boiled peanuts, cabbage, cucumbers and noodles.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I was super excited!  The smell of the cooking was delicious.

How is the food prepared?:

My host family taught me how to make dumplings.
