Traveler Bio

Hi everyone! My name is Monet Nazilla. My first name is pronounced "mo-nay." I'm named after Claude Monet, a famous French artist. My middle name, Nazillia (pronounced "naz-E-la") is my Persian name. I grew up in Arizona, but my mother's family is from Iran. Growing up in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual household made me absolutely love learning about new places, languages, food and people.

I have five brothers and sisters. I loved growing up in Arizona, so much so that I stayed in Arizona when I went to university. In May 2018, I graduated from Arizona State University.

But prior to that, when I was 18 years old, I took my first trip to a foreign country. The first place I traveled to alone was Peru. I made so many amazing friends and absolutely loved my time there. Since that first trip to Peru, I have been to many different countries to live, travel, study, work and even do research. My favorite place I have lived so far is Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Now I am living in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Ulaanbaatar means "red hero" in Mongolian. Here in Mongolia, I work at the police academy. I teach police officers and border patrol officers how to speak English. My job is so fun and rewarding. My students have a great sense of humour and love being challenged with a new language.

Thank you for following my journey! I can't wait to share my experiences in Mongolia with you!
