Field Note - Kids' Lives

What is your house like?:

Queen: I live in a barracks. (A barracks is a large building used to house soldiers.) It's a two-story building where only policemen and officers live. I live there because my dad is a prosecutor.

What chores do you have at home?:

Mahama: I sweep and wash the dishes after I eat. I also wash my parents' cars in the morning, if the cars are dirty.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Clinton: My mother is a teacher. She teaches Basic Design Technology at the junior high school level. My father is a politician. He is normally based in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

Queen: School starts at 7:30am and ends at 3:30pm. I live in a dorm on campus and do not visit home often.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Mahama: I also live on campus, so I do not need to travel to school often. I can visit town using a yellow-yellow if I have an exeat slip. (An exeat slip is like a permission slip. It means that a teacher has given a student permission to leave campus.)

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Clinton: I normally eat lunch in the Common Market, which is only a block away from school.
