Some of my long term hobbies include hiking and I have had some wonderful opportunities to hike in Spain so far! These are some of the threads of continuity that keep me sane when choque cultural (culture shock) hits. One weekend, for example, my friends and I hiked Siete Picos, which translates to Seven Peaks, in La Sierra (the mountains outside of Madrid). Breathing the cool mountain air and seeking bellas vistas (beautiful views) was so calming for the soul. Reading, a classic hobby, is also huge for me. I have found it so important to read literature from the place I live in or travel to. I also like to knit and have had more time to relearn the basics. Just last week I began my first project with a rib stitch, a pattern of two different types of stitches. I also love to keep scrapbooks of my adventures. I am a bit behind in the year, but I am hoping to do some catching up soon! I like to keep receipts, photos, and other mementos to remember what I think will be an unforgettable year!
All of my previous experiences and leaps of faith have brought me here today. Little leaps have turned into bigger leaps and have woven an interesting, fun array of experiences abroad. I can't wait to keep sharing more of my year in Spain with you all!
