As our journey together comes to a close, I wanted to highlight a few of the best parts of being a Fulbright grantee and tell you how you can be one, too!

The most important aspect of working in the Fulbright program is the educational culture exchange. What does this mean? It means that there are about 200 recent American graduates who are living in Spain for a year and almost an equal number of Spaniards in the United States doing the same. The goal is to help bridge divides between cultures and continue the development of relationships between different countries. This means that, every day, my job is to represent the United States, its cultural values and history. There are two different kinds of grants: research and teaching. I am currently on a teaching Fulbright which means that I spend 16 hours a week in classrooms helping Spanish students with their English oral exams. I work with students from the age of 12 to 18. There are six different grades in secundaria (secondary) school where I work.

The best parts about being a Fulbright really are getting to experience new things in your host country. In Spain, I have met many Spaniards and people from all over South and Central America who have come to Spain to work, study or gain residency.
