The seasons in South Africa are opposite of the ones in the U.S.! Right now, we are entering into the summer, so it is getting hot outside! In October, the average high is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the low is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The summer is also the rainy season. Small storms have been passing through, however, they do not last very long, only about 30 minutes. As we go into summer, the weather gets more intense with strong storms and hot temperatures.
In my village, the animals are mostly the same as the ones we have in the U.S. There are lots of cows, goats, donkeys, chickens and dogs. The farm animals roam around the village all day and return home at night. (Yes, they know where to go on their own!) Families have dogs that they consider guard dogs, meaning the dogs live and sleep outside. One animal we see here that you do not in the U.S. are the baboons! In the summer, they come down from the mountain and steal fruit off of the trees.
