There, I saw ajolotes (axolotls), one of the region’s most iconic animals. These amphibians are deeply connected to Mexican culture and history, but they are critically endangered due to habitat destruction and pollution. It was amazing to see them, though a little sad that they were in aquariums rather than in the wild.
I also walked through Parque México after stopping at a nearby bakery called Odette. Parque México is a large, historic park in the Condesa neighborhood, known for its walking paths, fountains and green spaces. I saw ducks swimming in the fountain and many dogs being walked. It was a nice way to enjoy a bit of nature in the middle of the city.
