The weather this week was cloudy, but dry. Even though there were clouds blocking the sun, it was very very hot because the main thing that keeps the air here cool is rain, and we have not had much of that in a while. I am lucky because my town is by the ocean, so when I am super overheated I can just go for a swim to cool down. Most days it can get up to 80°F, but lately it has been in the high 70s. From time to time, we will have nights where it goes beneath 70°F. Overall, the climate is what you would expect from a country in the tropics.
This week I saw a yellow crowned night heron! It was on my walk home from school and he shot out from underneath a drain pipe.
I also have one dog that lives outside my house, whose name is Zeus. We don’t know what breed he is, so we call him a “potlicka” which is the Kriol name for a stray dog. He is a pet but also serves as the protector of the house from unwanted strangers.
Lastly, my neighborhood has a ton of Iguanas, also known as “bamboo chicken”.
