How was the weather this week?:

The weather was rainier than expected. From January to March, Panama is in its dry season, so most days are supposed to be sunny. In the last week, however, it rained more than it did the entire month of December.

What animals did I see this week? :

There are lots of birds in Panama City that are very different from ones you might see in the United States. Back home, the most common big black birds I see in the sky are crows. In Panama, black vultures are all over town. I did see one familiar type of bird in the city square: pigeons!

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

When we visited the fish market, there were many different seabirds hanging around near the fishermen's boats. I saw a pelican scoop fish out of the sea with its big mouth.

Other Nature News from this week:

I'm always surprised by how warm it is when I go outside at night in Panama. Even in California, where the days can be pretty warm, I wouldn't dare go out after dark without a sweatshirt. That's not the case here. In Panama, the coldest time of day is whenever you're in a room with air conditioning!
