This week, the weather was very hot and dry. It is the dry season in Cambodia. It did not rain at all, and the water level in the Mekong River was very low. This week, we were traveling down the Mekong River by packrafts. We were camping at night and paddling during the day, so we were outside all week. I really noticed the weather because I was outside all the time!
This week, I saw pigs, dogs, cats, buffalo, cows and chickens. All of these animals are owned and herded by rural Cambodians. In the wild, I saw the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin and the endangered Asian Giant Softshell turtle. I also saw a lot of bugs while I was camping!
The coolest thing I saw this week was a nest for the endangered Asian Giant Softshell turtle. A ranger took me to a site where there was a nest filled with turtle eggs. The eggs were burried in the sand. The ranger carefully dug a hole into the nest for me to see inside.
