Nature News

While returning to the train station late on Friday, my friends and I were given quite a fright when something ran out from under our bench. It was a rat! It scurried away, unbothered. Meanwhile, I screamed so loud that I think my throat was sore for a few seconds! My friend jumped so high, dropping her bag, which unfortunately carried a decorative clay pot that smashed to the ground and broke into a million pieces. We all had a good laugh afterward!

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

The coolest thing that I saw this week was definitely the waterfalls. Beautiful turquoise waters and white spray...the falls looked picture perfect. I’m from Illinois so I don’t get to see waterfalls often. We climbed over an hour to get to the top level of the falls and every single grueling moment of the hike was worth it!

Other Nature News from this week:

The climb to the waterfalls was dangerous. Rocks, trees, roots, vines...nature at its finest, yet scary and dangerous for humans, especially those who aren’t wearing climbing shoes and who haven’t climbed along rocks like me! It was especially hard once we kept going higher up where the challenges increased. Not only were we climbing rotting wooden stairs, we also had to climb stone steps and even slide and crawl up rock faces to avoid falling a good 12 feet down into more rocks. It was dangerous, but we took our time and carefully I made it to the top.
