The horse sticking its whole face into my camera made me laugh, and the coati popping out of the bushes was a suprise. The guanaco in Patagonia made me slow down, because it looked so calm in this huge, empty landscape that it made me feel small in a good way. Even seeing the black cat and the chicken just chilling in random places made the whole experience feel more real and connected to everyday life.
The animals I saw all lived in totally different environments. The horse was on a ranch surrounded by open fields and hills, so it had plenty of space to roam. The coati was living in the forest. The guanaco lives out in the wide, windy grasslands of Patagonia, with huge open spaces with mountains in the distance. The black cat and the chicken were city animals, just hanging around quiet streets and windowsills as if they were part of the neighborhood. I thought it was very cool to see how each one fit into its own environment.
Each animal used its environment in its own way. The coati stayed low to the forest floor to find food and hide. The guanaco lives in a huge national park and eats its surroundings. The horse would pull over to the side of the path to munch on grass. Even the cat and chicken used shady corners, rooftops and ledges to stay safe and look for food.
A lot of things can harm these animals, depending on where they live. Coatis can be threatened by cars and losing forest space. Guanacos deal with harsh weather and predators, and their habitat can shrink when people build too much.
