During my time in Peru, I’ve been exploring local food as a way to better understand the culture. Trying new dishes has been both exciting and a little nerve-racking, but it’s helped me grow more open-minded and adventurous.
This is my third week in Peru! So far, I have tried chicharrón de pescado (fried fish), mondongo (a traditional soup), and ají de gallina (a creamy chicken dish). I’ve also tried lots of delicious meats and unique fruits that I had never seen before!
Right now, my favorite dishes are chicharrón de pescado or ají de gallina. They are both so flavorful and different from what I usually eat in the United States!
I have to admit, I can be a picky eater! Sometimes I felt a little nervous trying new foods. But I’ve been doing my best to keep an open mind and be brave. Trying new foods is part of learning about a new culture, and I’ve discovered that some things I thought I wouldn’t like are actually pretty tasty!
