Swedish is the national language, but most people are also fluent in English. However, there are over 200 dialects that are spoken throughout the country, such as the indigenous Sámi languages.

Although Sweden is a part of the European Union, which uses the euro, Sweden uses the Swedish krona instead.

What was the best meal this week?:

Last week, I got to try a traditional Swedish Christmas dinner! My favorites were Janssons frestelse, a creamy potato and anchovy casserole, and saffransbullar, a bun mixed with saffron spices so it becomes bright yellow and savory. Finally, we topped it off with julmust, a Swedish soft drink similar to Coca-Cola.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listened to a ton of ABBA this week, mostly from the Mamma Mia soundtrack. Did you know that ABBA is a pop group originating in Sweden? There is even an ABBA museum you can visit in Stockholm.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I went cross country skiing, also known as Nordic skiing, this week. I love downhill skiing back home, but cross country skiing is different. Not only is it on mostly flat ground, but also the skis are skinnier and longer.
