The holiday is more commonly known as dušičky, which means "little souls." Instead of dressing in costumes, carving pumpkins or trick-or-treating, the Czech people take this day to visit the graves of family or friends and light candles or leave flowers in rememberance. Maybe they can teach me more about this tradition while I teach them more about ours.
This just-for-fun English club is important because it's good to set aside time to just be social and focus on personal relationships. Work is important but if you don't take the time to enage with your co-workers and peers, you aren't getting the full picture of what it is like to live in the Czech Republic. By making a point to interact with the people here both in and out of the classroom, I am getting a much better idea of what daily life is like here, and I'm making friends at the same time! I hope that these bonds that I make here will last a lifetime.
