Have you ever met kids who grew up in another country? You might be surprised by how similar students in Portugal are to you!
For breakfast, Portuguese students usually have a glass of fresh orange juice with some toast and butter or jam. At school, they might eat vegetable soup and a small sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese and maybe fish or ham. Dinner is usually the students' largest meal of the day, and families eat around 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM. They might prepare a typical dish such as a bacalhau (cod) casserole or arroz con pato, which is duck rice.
In Lisbon, most families do not have a house, but rather live in apartment buildings in the city or in the suburbs. On the ground floor, there might be some shops and on all of the floors above, there are spacious apartments.
Just like you, Portuguese students help their families out at home with cooking, cleaning and taking care of their siblings or pets. Many Portuguese people live close to their extended families, so they might also visit their grandparents on a regular basis or have aunts, uncles and cousins living nearby.
