Greece is a very beautiful country that is rich in history. While visiting the town Mykonos I was able to learn about the culture and religous traditions. The best part was being able to learn from Greek people firsthand and to tour the historic places for myself.
While on a tour in Greece I was able to stop by the island Delos. While on Delos, I saw some of the famous building remains from centuries ago. I found out that Greeks are very religous and take their faith very seriously. In the United States, some of our most common holidays include Independence Day and Halloween, which is coming up this week! However, the biggest tradition that I kept hearing about in Greece was Carnival.
In Greece, the Carnival is called "Apokries". This is a festival that lasts roughly two weeks. It includes a huge feast, beginning at the Sunday of Meat Fare and ending with the first day of the Lent, which is also called Clean Monday. Typically everyone dresses in costumes, and parties take place in the streets and bars, with people throwing colored confetti to each other. The most famous Carnival Parade takes place in the city of Patra. In many towns around Greece and in the islands, local customs survive.
