Back home in the United States, I get around almost completely by car. I live in the suburbs and it is not very convenient to travel any other way. If I wanted to walk to the grocery store I think it would take me an hour to get there! Anytime I need to leave my house to go shopping or even to go visit a friend, I need to get into my car and drive there. It is very common for families in my town to have their own car and to drive everywhere they need to go. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to live in my town without a car to get to the places I have to visit every day!
When I travel I love to see all the different types of transportation people use every day. Here in Mozambique, there are a lot of ways people get around. Lots of people drive in my new town, but their cars look a little different than the cars I am used to. Here in Mozambique, the steering wheel is on the right side of the car and they drive on the other side of the road as opposed to in the USA! Everyone also drives cars with 4-wheel drive. These types of cars are important here in Tofo Beach because a lot of the roads are not paved and normal cars would get stuck in the deep sand that covers most of the roads.
One of the most popular ways to travel short distances is to walk. My house is a five-minute walk to my work, a seven-minute walk to the market, and a ten-minute walk to the beach.
