Lesotho's landscape and nature is often breathtaking. There is so much beauty to be found nationwide, particularly in rural areas. In the south, there is a national park called Snake Park, full of anacondas, endemic puff adders and spitting cobras. In the east, the Drakensburg mountains contain many caves and rock shelters with the largest and most concentrated group of paintings in Africa south of the Sahara. In the central highlands, toursits can visit Semonkong to view the incredible Maletsunyane Falls and go for a pony ride. Outside of Lesotho, you can visit one of South Africa's many national parks that have the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) or enjoy the vast coastline.
Besides the puff adder, all of the animals that I've encountered in Lesotho have been the same as what someone would encounter at home in the States. To me, the most special animal in Lesotho is the extinct Lesothosaurus, meaning the "lizard from Lesotho". How cool is it to have a dinosaur named after the place where it roamed millions of years ago? They were a small species of dinosaur, measuring between three to five feet in length and height.
