The past few months of sharing my journey with you all have flown by, much like my time living here in Ecuador. I love Ecuador, and being able to share it with you all is the best way I can express my gratitude to this country for all it has given me.
Travel is such an important experience and tool that allows us to widen our worldview, expand our understanding of different cultures and form new relationships with diverse people. There are so many ways to make travel possible, too. For example, you can study abroad in high school or college, find a job abroad…. Or even consider the Peace Corps!
So what exactly is Peace Corps? Peace Corps was founded in 1961 and is an entity of the federal government (however, it is not a political organization). It gives U.S. citizens the opportunity to live and serve abroad, integrate into a chosen host country and contribute to positive, sustainable change in that country. There are Peace Corps programs established in more than 60 countries worldwide, in a variety of fields, from Health and Wellness to Youth and Families Development, Economic Development, Environmental Sustainability, Agriculture and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. When you apply to the Peace Corps, you can apply for a specific country and program, or you can just say “apply where needed most,” and you could end up anywhere in the world!
