A Day in the Life of an Italian Graduate Student

Introduction:

After introducing myself on my first video call, and describing my own research and daily activities here in Italy, I wanted to interview an Italian graduate student to see how an Italian lifestyle differs from an American one. David is in the same research group as me, and is in fact mentoring me on my current research projects. I ask him questions about himself, his life at home, what he likes to do for fun and his advice for American students wishing to visit or study in Europe.

What is your full name?:

David Pelosi

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

I’ve been living here in Perugia for 10 years now, as I’ve completed all my studies in this city. I originally come from a small village in central Italy, with just a thousand people called Latera. I actually moved here before starting university because I was part of the youth academy of the Perugia football team (you call it soccer) from the ages of 15 to 18.

What is your family like?:

I come from a normal family and grew up in a small village close to the countryside. I’m an only child, but I have many cousins, so my family is quite large. It's very common for us to talk about politics with each other, even if we might not agree on similiar issues.
