The Freshest Food Ever!

Introduction:

I’ve noticed that food here is extremely rich and flavorful, yet very simple. Italians have very strong beliefs about how food should be  prepared. My friend told me that if food is too complicated, then it’s probably not good. He was saying this in the context of adding too many ingredients to prepare a single meal. I know this is an over-generalization, but this just goes to show how deeply engrained food is in Italian culture.

What food did I try?:

I tried a pizza topped with sautéed pear and guanciale (a type of Italian pig meat), along with mozzarella, brie and black pepper.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I was slightly hesitant to try the pizza due to the typically un-Italian combination of toppings, but it’s been the best pizza I’ve had here so far. I thought it’s a little funny how Italians make fun of Americans for eating Hawaiian pizza (topped with pineapple and Canadian bacon), yet they have this pizza made with a different fruit and meat combination!

How is the food prepared?:

Pizza is made in-house, from the dough to the toppings. The pizza is placed into an oven and then served. It is very typical for Italian meals to be made in the restaurant, rather than having food prepared beforehand. This means that it takes a bit longer for the food to be served, but the wait is worth it!
