Instead of interviewing one child, I have combined my notes from working with students in the community, as well as the younger siblings of my British friends, to explore what it's like to be a kid/teenager in the UK.
The most common answer I receieved is the same to that of most people who live in the UK: porridge, biscuits with jam, or a toasted crumpet with butter. Porridge is simply oatmeal that has a bit more milk in it, to make the porridge itself looser and creamier. Instead of berries or brown sugar, like I would eat oatmeal at home, they eat it with strawberry jam or preserves. This has become one of my favorite go-to breakfasts in the morning because it's quick, easy, and hearty. Same reason the kids love it too!
Since Cardiff is more metropolitan, most students live in flats (apartments) with their families, or row homes (houses that are connected to each other) along the outskirts of the city. Those who live closer out to the Cardiff Bay might live in a cottage, but row homes are equally popular on that side of the city.
