Instead of buying everything at one store, people in Hobart usually buy just a few items from a small grocery store and then buy vegetables from the weekly farmers' market and bread from a local bakery. My favorite local bakery so far has been “Pigeon Whole Bakery” and they say they make “the bread that feeds an island” because so many people on the island of Tasmania love their bread!
My favorite bread from the bakery is called “stoneground sourdough”. The crust is super crunchy, and the inside is nice and soft. It’s the best bread ever!
The bakery is always filled with busy locals stopping in on their walk home from work to grab a loaf of bread. Being in a new country can be stressful when you don’t know how things work and don’t know what’s polite. Everyone in the bakery was really nice to me, and they even made recommendations for what I should try.
The bakery makes fresh bread every morning! Tasmania has a lot of farmland, so many bakeries are able to make bread with ingredients all grown in Tasmania.
