Interviewing Sarai - A 16 year-old High School Student in Zamora

Introduction:

I met Sarai through the community English club that I lead with another Peace Corps Volunteer. Sarai is a local high schooler passionate about learning English. She requested the interview be done in English, despite her primary language being Spanish.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

When there's time, I will eat eggs with bread and milk. My favorite bread to buy at the panaderia is a type of sweet bread called a panamito. When there's no time, I will grab a yogurt with cereal. My favorite dish to eat for dinner is chicken pasta with cheese sauce. Not beef. I don't love beef.

What is your house like?:

I live with my father, mother and sister. I have my own room with a desk. Outside, there is space to play basketball. 

What chores do you have at home?:

My mother is very strict. I must clean my room every morning.

(She also mentioned that she cannot start dating until she is 18 years old. She is ok with this because she wants to focus on school, but other people with boyfriends and girlfriends tend to show off a lot.)

What jobs do your parents have?:

My father produces bottled water* and my mother owns a rooftop restaurant near the minery where workers can buy beer and food.
