You guys can consider this journal entry a Halloween special! I know I told you all a bit about how Halloween works in Switzerland on our last call, but now that I’ve spent the day here, I’d like to share a bit about my personal experience.
For Halloween, I went to the cities of Broc and Gruyère which are both located in the canton of Fribourg in west Switzerland. At this point, I’ve been to 10 of the 26 cantons (I was trying to go to all of them before I left, but I’m not sure if I’ll manage that)! I first went to the Maison Cailler, or House Cailler, which houses the Cailler chocolate museum. You all may remember me talking about the Lindt Museum in Zurich in one of my first journal entries; this one was so much cooler in my opinion. I had breakfast at the museum café before our audio tour of the house. Many museums in Switzerland have audio devices that you can tap on exhibits and then hold to your ear to hear an explanation instead of booking a walking guide or reading exhibit descriptions on the walls. These audio guides tend to be offered in a relatively vast amount of languages. I usually choose French because I’m trying to improve!
The Cailler Museum felt more like a haunted house or an escape room than a chocolate museum.
