Join me on my journey to Shanghai, China! I attend University of Michigan-Shanhai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute and I study mechanical engineering during the week and Chinese culture everyday!
This past week has been awesome! I have been enjoying my classes. Over the weekend, my program featured an excursion to the countryside. We got to experience more traditional Hungarian culture.
Hi! My name is Kathryn Hegarty, but you can call me Katy. I recently graduated from Wheaton College, in Norton Massachusetts. One thing you should know about me is that I love turtles! The summer before my senior year of college I had the wonderful opportunity to work with the endangered northern diamondback terrapin (a terrapin is a turtle that lives in areas where fresh and salt water mix) in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I eventually decided to do a senior honors thesis studying the nest site ecology (physical environment) of the northern diamondback terrapin to improve local conservation efforts. Looking for opportunities to further improve conservation of endangered turtle species around the world, I applied for and was fortunate to receive a U.S. Fulbright Research Grant to study green sea turtles in Terengganu, Malaysia in partnership with the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and their Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU).
Working with SEATRU I have had the opportunity to share my research with guests and officials who have visited SEATRU’s research base on Pulau Redang, a small island off of Terengganu. I have enjoyed sharing my experience with these guests and cannot wait to share my journey with you and follow along with you through your scholastic adventures! Till next time! Selamat tinggal (Good-bye!)
Kazakhstan is developing a clean energy infrastructure (the system of buildings, roads and other physical elements that make up a city). I went to the World Expo in Astana to learn about it!
