Growing Up in Ecuador

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Shanik: "I study everything, including math, science and English, but my favorite topics are the union of atoms, language and literature." 

What is your homework like?:

Shanik: "My homework is... well, it's a lot, but it's not very difficult, it just takes some time. It's not very stressful."

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

Shanik: "After school, I usually go home and go to dance class, and when I don't have dance class, I play with my dog."
Nora: "Can you tell me a little bit more about dance?"
Shanik: "Dance is... well, it's not a sport, but it's... something I like to do that helps me de-stress. I express my feelings through dance, and it's very calming for me because it's a place where I can express everything. I also like it because there are different movements that are very inspiring and very beautiful."

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Shanik: "My favorite celebrity is, I'd say, Michael Jackson, even though he's no longer alive. His music and the rhythms in his music are so beautiful, and sometimes I like the lyrics."

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

Shanik: "The kind of music I like to listen to is mostly in English. I like almost all English music, all genres except for reggaeton. I like music like Michael Jackson's, and other singers too, but mostly just English music."

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

Shanik: "When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian because I really love animals.
